Not only does it sucks, it stinks too
Ever since i was enlisted into the army early this year, i have been learning many lessons. One of them which i'm going to elaborate further, is about the price we have to pay for our freedom. Simply put, when we are going to book out on Friday evening, we have to give a part of us in exchange for this freedom(crossing over to the civilian world). For Shakespeare, it'll most likely be a pound of flesh. But in our case here in Singapore, it will be a pound of sweat. We have this activity which goes by the name 'Standby Area'. This means we have to clean up our area of dominance, which is basically the places where we live. This activity, although not physically strenuous, is still capable of causing us to 'lose that pound of sweat'. i personally do not know why, if i factor out the push-ups punishment. Maybe the act of standing still(strictly no fidgeting at all) inside or outside our bunk is enough to turn on our sweat tap. Back to what i was talking about, we have to sweat out a pound before we can attain our freedom in the civilian world. A price to pay... Now you know why that NSF sitting near you on the bus or the MRT stinks like hell. It really isnt our fault. We dont want to soak our green uniform full of sweat in the first place. We want to book out feeling fresh and clean too. But i am truly sorry for making your environment so unbearable you have to pinch your nose.
